Our brand story
As many organisations before, Insignia started with a conversation between two international students in 2018.
​
After long hours of working on assignments in the communal kitchen of one of Insignia’s founding members, the two young men adjourned to the tiny concrete backyard for yet another coffee break - During this period of the academic year, the KUL student clubs were practicing their events around town.

These traditional events drew a lot of attention to students in and around Leuven. One of these students was a ‘backyard-coffee-drinker’, and he expressed his involvement to the events. Without the Dutch language barrier he felt invited to compete and enjoy the festivities.

Then came the first question that would ignite the spark of Insignia’s eternal flame: “Say, are there any English student clubs in Leuven to apply for?”. As insignificant as it may seem, the question opened the doors to possibilities for an exciting new venture. Research was done, ‘competitors’ were analysed, building blocks were set and a semester later Insignia was enrolled as an official student club at KU Leuven.
